1921. $8 billion and rising processed food exports can unlock growth for India in global food trade
- On 24 May 2025, India’s agricultural exports reached $48 billion in FY24, solidifying its position as a major player in the global food trade. However, processed food exports, currently valued at $8 billion, offer significant headroom for growth, according to Deloitte & FICCI’s latest report ‘Spurring growth
- The is potential to move up the value chain from primary commodities to value-added processed foods, which could be achieved by establishing Indian food products as a mainstream global phenomenon.
- Few opportunities to help enable this transition include scaling healthy Indian food products, such as millets and makhana; upgrading commodity value chains for highly exported products such as groundnut; and building strategic branding around globally trending products and India’s GI-tagged products,”
- The contribution of the food processing sector, which accounts for 7.7% of India’s total manufacturing GVA (gross value added) and plays a critical role in generating employment, fostering rural development, and enhancing value addition.

1922. Indian Army launches first FM radio station in Uttarakhand
- On 23 May 2025, The first FM radio station operated by the Indian Army in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army's Central Command Anindya Sengupta.
- The objective of the initiative is to create goodwill between the Indian Army and people of the border areas said Manish Singhal, manager of the radio station.
- The station manager said the radio station is being operated from the Army Public School of the 'Panchshul Brigade' of the Indian Army and people within a radius of 12 km from the radio station can listen to it.
- The programmes will pay special attention to the local history, culture, society and occupations of people of the border areas such as agriculture, horticulture.
1923. Over Rs 22 crore for redevelopment of Hirakud Railway Station in Odisha
- On 24 May 2025, In a significant move to modernise and revitalise railway infrastructure in Western Odisha, Indian Railways has sanctioned Rs 22.87 crore for the comprehensive redevelopment of Hirakud Railway Station under the national Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
- The Hirakud station will undergo a series of upgrades designed to enhance both functionality and passenger convenience. A 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to ensure smoother passenger movement., - Two Passenger Lifts to facilitate easier mobility, especially for the elderly and differently-abled travellers, Improved Toilets for better sanitation standards, Coach Indication Boards to provide real-time train information. , Inclusive infrastructure with Divyangjan-friendly features, ensuring accessibility for all.
- The redevelopment of Hirakud is among several projects in districts such as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi, with notable allocations like Rs 23.76 crore for Sambalpur and Rs 35.79 crore for Titilagarh.
1924. Delhi Govt to create 2 lakh ‘Eco-Warriors’ through youth climate drive
- On 22 May 2025 , The mark International Biodiversity Day, Delhi Environment Minister launched a massive climate sensitisation initiative aimed at mobilising nearly two lakh students across schools and colleges in the capital as ‘Eco-Warriors’.
- The campaign, being conducted in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), will operate through around 2,000 eco-clubs in government and private institutions across Delhi-NCR.
- The MoU was signed between the Department of Environment and TERI to formalise the partnership, with the Delhi Government set to sanction Rs 40 lakh for the programme’s implementation.
- The initiative will involve interactive learning modules, workshops and community-based activities between June and November 2025. It also includes the training of 80 ‘Paryavaran Sanrakshaks’— students and educators, who will act as eco-leaders in their institutions and help sustain the momentum through peer learning.

1925. Centre Clears 6-Lane Upgrade for Hyderabad Ring Road
- On 23 May 2025, The Central government has approved a major revision to the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, upgrading the proposed northern segment from a four-lane to a six-lane expressway.
- Initially tendered in December 2024 as a four-lane access-controlled greenfield expressway, the 161.5 km northern segment—from Sangareddy to Choutuppal—was estimated to cost Rs 55.5 billion.
- The Centre’s in-principle nod for a six-lane design, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun revising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and conducting updated traffic studies.

1926. Odisha CM Majhi launches 24 projects worth Rs 1.15 lakh crore
- On 23 May 2025, Chief Minister of odisha unveiled 24 industrial projects in Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex here with a total investment of a whopping Rs 1.15 lakh crore.
- The inaugurated four and laid foundation for 20 major projects spanning critical sectors such as steel, ferro alloys, chemicals, solar energy, health, refractory materials, automotive components, warehousing and food processing.
- The projects showcased the government’s intent of pushing forward the investment commitments in the state and can generate 36,000 employment opportunities in the region.

1927. Centre floats tender for Rs 600 crore Jorhat–Majuli bridge, announces Assam CM
- On May 22, 2025, Assam CM announced that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways floated a tender for the Rs 600.51 crore Jorhat–Majuli Bridge, a 6.81 km, two-lane project.

1928. Engineering exports surge 11.28% in April led by steel, vehicles; China, Turkey shipments see year-on-year fall
- On may 22, 2025, India’s engineering exports rose by 11.28 per cent year-on-year in April 2025, reaching $9.51 billion
- The growth was attributed to a combination of a low base effect and increased shipments of electric machinery, ships, motor vehicles, and copper products.
- Exports to major markets surged, with US-bound engineering goods increasing 17 per cent to $1.66 billion in April 2025 from $1.42 billion a year earlier. Exports to the UAE posted a sharper jump of 37.3 per cent, reaching $538.8 million from $392.5 million. Other markets such as the UK, Singapore, Brazil, and Australia also recorded strong growt

1929. 103 railway stations get airport-like makeover: All about Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
- On may 22, 2025, Prime Minister inaugurated 103 redeveloped Amrit stations across India via video conferencing from Bikaner.
- The redeveloped stations are spread across 86 districts in 18 States and Union Territories and have been built at a cumulative cost of over Rs 1,100 crore, according to a release by the ministry of railways
- Among them are five railway stations in Karnataka — Munirabad, Bagalkot, Gadag, Gokak Road, and Dharwad — which have undergone major upgrades under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
